It means that both tension and pressure can be measured by an s-type load cell.

The shape of the load cell sensor is s-shaped, we usually call it an s-beam load cell sensor.

The s-type load cells are one of the first invented force sensors, so it is very widely used in various industries and has very high accuracy as well.

Looking at the S-type load cell, you can find that Its force area is on the upper and lower rectangular faces, which means when applying pressure, we just need to apply the force on the two rectangular surfaces.

By taking a balance weight and placing it directly on one side face of the S-type load cell sensor, we can measure the pressure force imposed on it.

When measuring tension force, the S-type load cell sensor has two threaded holes on the top and bottom, so we can fix our load pins or load shackles or other work pieces on these two threaded holes and pull them against each other to measure the tensile force.

S-type load cell sensors are available in different sizes, for example, the small size can reach 19.1 × 16 mm, and the large size can reach 50 × 66 mm or more.

Is an S-type load cell a type of tension load cell?

YES. An S beam load cell belongs to the category of tension load cells.
With the S-shaped design, it is capable of measuring both tension (pulling) and compression (pushing) forces.
But a tension load cell is specifically designed to only measure tension or pulling forces. It cannot measure compression forces like an S-type can.

What is FSO in Load Cells?

FSO stands for Full Scale Output, which is a term used to describe the maximum output signal of a sensor, such as a load cell, within its rated capacity.
Take our PDLY-103 for example, it has an accuracy of ±0.03% FSO, means the possible error in measurement would be:
0.03% of 100kg = 0.03/100 x 100kg = 0.03kg
This means the readings from the s beam load cell will have a potential/possible error margin of plus or minus 30 grams on a 100kg load.
